Geneva Community Unit School District 304 Board of Education met Jan. 24.

1. CALL TO ORDER

1.4 Reminder to Sign Attendance Record The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by President Grosso.

Board members present: President Mark Grosso, Vice President Taylor Egan, Larry Cabeen, Policy Committee Chair Leslie Juby, Alicia Saxton. Late: None. Absent: Finance Committee Chair Dave Lamb, Mike McCormick.

The President welcomed everyone, reminded them to sign the attendance record, and lead them in the Pledge of Allegiance.

District staff present: Laura Sprague, Communications Coordinator; Shonette Sims, Director for Learning & Teaching; Anne Giarrante, Director for Student Services; Mike Wilkes, Director for Technology; Dr. Andy Barrett, Assistant Superintendent for Learning & Teaching; Dr. Adam Law, Assistant Superintendent for Personnel Services; Dr. Kent Mutchler, Superintendent.

2. PUBLIC COMMENTS

None.

3. BOARD DIALOGUE TOPICS

3.1 2019-2020 Board Goals Discussion Board members, along with district administrators, discussed and reviewed Board goals. The goals and topics covered included:

Learning & Teaching

• Leverage Instructional Coaches to foster high quality, learning focused professional development.

• Pilot and implement instructional resources to support students at all levels.

• Continue expansion of blended learning opportunities at GHS.

• Formulate an updated curriculum renewal process.

Student Services

• District administrators will review and consider social-emotional programs and supports.

• The District will develop systems to support consistency in restorative practices and disciplinary procedures.

• The District will continue to refine the continuum of special education services to support student’s academic, functional, health, communication, and social-emotional needs.

Technology

• Develop new ways to promote and share technology information with District stakeholders.

• Successfully upgrade the District’s wireless network infrastructure.

• Assess the effectiveness of the District’s approach to internet safety.

• Refine customer support practices to more effectively enhance learning and teaching.

Parents and Community

• Implement new methods for innovative storytelling.

• Explore tools that enhance communication to increase effectiveness and two-way engagement with community.

• Seek new opportunities to continue to build, strengthen, and sustain relationships with staff, partners and community.

Human Resources

• Recruit and retain high quality staff.

• Ongoing professional development.

Financial Resources

• Develop an efficient and effective working budget for the 2019-2020 school year.

• Complete a comprehensive annual financial report for the 2018-2019 school year.

At 8:58 p.m., motion by Cabeen, second by Juby and with unanimous consent, the meeting was adjourned.
