City of Aurora Advisory Commission on Disabilities met Jan. 13.

CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order at 6:05 pm.

ROLL CALL

Present: Lori Price, Debbie Nardone, Janine McDonough, Todd Nardone, and Elana Newkirk

Absent: Teresa Crafton, Eric Moch, and Lisa Jacino

Others Present: John Jansa and Alex Voigt

PUBLIC COMMENT

None

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

December 2019 minutes were not presented prior to meeting. Approval of December 9, 2019 minutes was tabled until next meeting.

AGENDA

1. Alex Voigt discussed partnership possibilities with: Metropolitan Mayor’s Caucus and Chicago Metro Agency for Planning. She will follow-up with further information at the March meeting. Jim Birchall, Superintendent of Fleet and Facilities Maintenance was contacted to present and update at a future meeting.

2. John Jansa, Executive Director Fox Valley Developers, presented an overview of the redevelopment of the old Copley hospital. The vision is to rebuild, reconnect and reinvigorate the neighborhood. There are three phases:

1) Administration office for School District 131

2) Healthcare provider office space on the property

3 Independent Apartment Community (IAC) for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and a separate Senior Living Community

The third phase of the project will include IAC (independent apartment communities) which include a secure housing and supported service model specifically directed to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Each IAC is approximately 500 sf and lease agreement includes utilities, meals and transportation. Marketing plan expected within 45 days with material and website expected within 60 days. This commission will add links to its website once available.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Communication – Debbie Nardone will be meeting with City employee this week to discuss and have logo ready by next meeting. She followed up with Jeff Palmquist at the Fox Valley Park District and hopes to have more details at the next meeting.

Employment/Financial Planning – Janine McDonough has met this last month with Alex Voigt on a Best Buddies employment initiative with the City.

Next meeting February 10, 2020, 6 pm at 44 E Downer Place, 5th floor conference room B.

ADJOURNMENT

A motion to adjourn was made by member Newkirk and seconded by member T. Nardone. Motion carried and the meeting was adjourned at 7 pm.
