Illinois state Rep. Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) is not one to leave any stone unturned when it comes to serving his constituents of the 65th District.
“We’re trying to make sure they’re taken care of,” Ugaste said of the paper shredding and food drive event he’s slated to co-host with state Sen. Don DeWitte (R-St. Charles) from 9 to 11 a.m. on Oct. 5 at the Carillon Senior Living Community in Pingree Grove. “These are two things that are pretty easy that we try to do to help people.”
The event is free and open to the public, and staffers from the Burlington-Hampshire Area Food Pantry will be on hand to accept donations from area residents.

“Everyone can use help at some point,” said Ugaste, adding that the paper shredding service is all about keeping the community safe. “Shred events are not a service everyone has available to them. It helps prevent fraud and other things in the district. It’s something we like to do to allow assistance to seniors who don’t have a lot of access."
Ugaste said the event is a small step toward making sure all the needs of his constituents are regularly addressed.
“If we could ever get finances in our state in order, I would like to start funding education like we're suppose to,” Ugaste said. “Other things I’d like to do are to help people with disabilities. Now, we fall short. It would go a long way if we addressed some of these big fiscal issues we have in front of us.”
The 65th District includes parts of Geneva, St. Charles, Campton Hills, Plato Center, South Elgin, Elgin, Hampshire and Huntley.
