City of Aurora Advisory Commission on Disabilities met Aug. 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order at 6:03pm.

ROLL CALL

Present: Lori Price, Debbie Nardone, Teresa Crafton, Eric Moch, Lisa Jacino, Todd Nardone, and Elana Newkirk

Absent: Dr. Cynthia Penne

Others Present: Alex Voigt, Alderman Patty Smith (8th ward)

PUBLIC COMMENT

No public comment

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Erich Moch made a motion to approve the minutes, Elana Newkirk seconded, roll call was taken and the minutes from the June 10, 2019 meeting was unanimously approved.

AGENDA

1. Resource Fair: Spring 2020. Alex will check with Vaughn Center for dates in March/April. Possibly 3/7/20, 3/14/20 or 4/4/20.

2. October- National Disability Awareness Month: City of Aurora is partnering with D129 for Shadow Day on Wednesday, October 23, 2019. Lunch meet and greet with Advisory commission on Disabilities at noon on 10/23/19. Businesses who are involved with the employment of people with disabilities will be recognized at City council meeting on 10/22/19

3. Update on community outreach for sub-committee members: Committee chairs will continue to generate resources/volunteers. Deliverables for each sub-committee are under mission and goals.

Letter heads are being worked on for communications. Survey will be sent out to volunteers to determine areas of interest for sub-committees.

4. Update on Commission report: Interviews and recommendation in process to mayor to appoint replacement commissioner for open position on Advisory commission on Disabilities.

PENDING

No pending business was discussed.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Sub-committee for housing: Special needs housing meeting in the works.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Alderman Patty Smith (8th Ward): Special interest regarding adults with disabilities (22+ years old). Emphasis on job placement, transportation, housing, etc. Transportation discussion on PACE, UBER, WAV options and needed improvements.

ADJOURNMENT

A motion to adjourn was made by member Todd Nardone and seconded by member Erich Moch. Motion carried and the meeting was adjourned at 7:09.
