Former state university employee Gonzalez paid in $14K to pension fund, could collect $171K in retirement

Former state university employee Irma Gonzalez, who retired in July 2018, saved $14,240 toward a pension over 13 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Gonzalez would collect as much as $171,454, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Kane County Reporter.

The projection assumes Gonzalez received $3,603 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Gonzalez will have already received $15,073 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
