City of Elgin issued the following announcement on Feb. 26.
Did you know these are the same crews that plow your streets during snow events? With the break in weather, they are able to provide some temporary relief.
Have you noticed potholes that need attention? Please report them to 311 with the nearest address or intersection.
The freeze and thaw over winter months creates ideal conditions for potholes to form. As time and weather allows, crews fill potholes on main roads every week with “cold patch” during winter months. This provides a temporary fix, but potholes can still reopen after a freeze and thaw cycle or snow event.
When asphalt plants open in the spring, crews make their way back through the city to fill potholes with the longer lasting “hot mix” asphalt..
