Kane County Board Chairman Chris Lauzen is allegedly blocking construction of a new coroner’s building, telling St. Charles residents in a mailer that it would put a “morgue” near their subdivision.
Board member Drew Frasz (R-Elbrun), a champion of the project, told the Kane County Chronicle that Lauzen had “incited opposition” with the letters. Frasz said he believed Lauzen was working with Deborah Allen, the committee chairwoman, to keep the item off board meeting agendas.
Despite asking Allen to elevate the topic to a discussion, Frasz said it keeps being put on hold.
Frasz said the building’s replacement was delayed by the 2008 recession, and added that the board has been avoiding new building projects for the last decade.
Lauzen denied any contact with Allen, the Chronicle said, and suggested Frasz draft a formal resolution the committee could consider.
