City of Batavia issued the following announcement on Jan. 17.

The City of Batavia’s water distribution system is an aging infrastructure system which requires continual maintenance and improvements to maintain good operating conditions. In particular, the City's Area 3 (roughly bounded by Walnut Street on the north, Garfield Avenue on the south, IL 31 on the east and McKinley Street to the west) water main distribution system requires replacement due to old age, high frequency of water main breaks, presence of lead services and inadequate fire flows. The proposed project entails the replacement of all 4” and 6” diameter water mains with new 8” and 12” diameter water mains within Area 3. Approximately 4,430 feet of water main and 28 valves will be installed to upgrade the water main distribution system within Area 3. It is proposed to finance this project with a 20-year low interest loan in the amount of $1,988,000 from the Illinois EPA Public Water Supply Loan Program.
The IEPA determination will be available for review for a period of ten days beginning on January 17th.
Please note City Offices will be closed Monday, January 21, 2019 for Martin Luther King Day, therefore documents will be available until Friday, February 1, 2019.
