City of Batavia issued the following announcement on Nov. 6.
In the wake of the shootings at Stoneman Douglas High School this past February, representatives from across our community came together for a discussion about what could be done to prevent such a tragedy from happening here. An idea put forth by Melinda Kintz, Executive Director of the Batavia United Way, gained universal support: bring 2-1-1 to the residents of Kane County.
2-1-1 is the number to call when it is not an emergency but you need help, whether it be financial, housing, mental health issues or other struggles you or a loved one are facing and just need some assistance to get connected with resources to address those problems. Through the efforts of the Batavia United Way and with the financial support of Kane County Schools, local United Way organizations, the Fox Valley Community Fund and the Dunham Fund, Kane County now has launched a three year pilot program for 2-1-1. Please watch this video and learn about what a wonderful resource 2-1-1 will be for those in need in our community. And if you need help (and it is not a 9-1-1 emergency) call 2-1-1. They are standing by waiting to assist you 24-7-365.
