1. Call to Order

2. Approval of Minutes: August 17, 2018

3. Office of Community Reinvestment - Workforce Development Division

Staff Hoffman reviewed the monthly fiscal report included in the agenda packet. He discussed details of the grant expenditures and provided a brief update on the WIOA18.

4. Comments by Co-Chair

Co-Chair Ford provided information on an event he attended for the SER Jobs for Progress youth program in Aurora.

Co-Chair Gillam announced the German manufacturer Faber-Castell Cosmetics has plans to open a plant in Elgin. The Daily Herald reported it would create 50 full time jobs.

5. Jobs Committee Priorities

A. Why Kane Website Update and Discussion - (Priorities 3, 4, and 6)

Referencing a PowerPoint presentation not included in the agenda packet, ITD staff Tedder gave

an update on the working template of the Why Kane website. They have been refining the navigation and design of the site. They will be including interactive maps with a focus on accessibility for tablets and mobile devices. Considerable discussion occurred.

B. How Active Job Seekers Find Employment in 2018 (Priorities 3, 4 and 6)

Referencing a PowerPoint presentation not included in the agenda packet, staff Toth discussed the history of active job seekers and the current trends. He reviewed percentages of success rates, statistics, and facts. Toth recommended professional job links including IllinoisJobLink.com, Indeed, Career Builder, and Glassdoor. Considerable discussion occurred.

Dev. Dir. VanKerkhoff provided an update on the Chicago International trade show he attended. Smith & Richardson Manufacturing Co. in Geneva sponsored 98 local High School students and provided transportation to the trade show.

Toth promoted the next Round Table discussion on October 12 and Manufacturing Day on October 5.
