AURORA C. I. JOHNSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Meet the GCSC Staff

Meetstaff

Aurora C. I. Johnson Elementary School issued the following announcement on Sept. 22.

Welcome to our introduction of this site and an opportunity to know and meet the individuals that work with your child everyday. Our Curriculum Night in Early September provided an opportunity to meet teachers and become familiar with some of the faces your child sees everyday during arrival at and departure from school each day.

In November Our pictures will appear as they will in snapshots of activities throughout the year.

Our official entrance is Door 7. Here is where you meet Christina Juarez, our Administrative Secretary. She is our Principal Stephanie Steinbrecher’s first mate, and our entire school’s angel. She keeps our records organized, has learned how to sing our daily announcement and puts a smile on her face as she handles the drama of our everyday routines. She greets you every time you call and ring the doorbell. Stephanie Steinbrecher is the principal and leader of our school team. She can help parents as well as teachers problem solve. She has a listening ear and a positive approach but most of all respect for the the feeling,s ideas and concerns you bring to her.

There are eight teaching teams in the building and your children have interactions with all the staff during the day. As a team we help with the dismissal and arrival routines, and we can provide your whole family with navigation of this building in your search for your child’s classroom and of course a bathroom. Each of our titles reflect the learning needs of your children. For example, I and my paraprofessional, Veronica Maravilla are in a general educational ESL room as is Shannon Armstrong and Leticia Martinez.

Jessica Bundra and her Parofessional, Zenaida Villanueva are a Blended Classroom for ESL Students. Ivan DeSantiago and Fernanda Camarena are bilingual and Blended as well. The instructional teams may have more than one para professional and have less students in their classrooms They are blessed with a smaller class size and with specialists who can push in and provide extra guidance during the day as well as strategies that aide learning and growth.. Vanessa Cook is assisted by Jessica Juarez. Jodi Eppenstein works with Francisca Gutierriez. Sandy Williams is assisted by Francisca Sanchez. Amanda Ziemer has two paraprofessionals: Maria Chaparro and Susan Collins Barbara Cevcik is a floater and she can slip into places we need most for emergency subbing. Tiffany Underwood is one on one and she has built a very special relationship with her AM and PM students. All our Paraprofessionals have years of team experience and put time into helping your child accomplish goals and have learning success.

Our specialists are never behind the scenes they are a very intricate part of our team.. They are in and out of classrooms providing not only their expertise but classroom support for the entire population of students that enter our building.

I feel blessed to introduce Elizabeth Mereness and Katrina Gelhausen for speech pathology and communicaion skills.. They provide us with the gift of visuals for classroom management and everyday conversation.. Chris Bonavolonta is our Sped Coordinator and Molly Donivan oversees placements through the assessment Clinic. She is in and out of our classroom to make sure each child has found his fit in the classroom community. Carmen Nelson is a name you hear when groups of children need a boost on their social skills.. KaliQa is a Psychologist but she has many tricks to help us assess and set learning goals. Kelli is an OT and provides techniques for fine motor development. They are all resources for the team. The nurses are literally our lifesavers. They don’t just provide bandages and ice packs. They distribute and manage medication, keep germs under control and are a direct line to 911.

I think the most important members of our team are Tim Bonifas and Robert Nieves. They handle our messes, clean up spills, accidents, contamination and most of create an environment for all of us that welcomes us each day to a home away from home.
