City of Batavia issued the following announcement on Aug. 13.
The City of Batavia’s three combined sewer areas are significant contributors to the total infiltration and inflow received at the wastewater treatment facility, as well as a source of local street flooding, sewer backups into residences and increased flows to lift stations. In particular, the City's Area 3 (roughly bounded by Walnut Street on the north, Garfield Avenue on the south, IL 31 on the east and McKinley Street to the west) has experienced frequent flooding and repeated drainage complaints. The proposed project entails the separation of the combined sewer system in Area 3. Approximately 5,190 feet of storm sewer pipe and 69 storm sewer structures will be constructed to convey the runoff from Area 3. The Area's existing pipe will then be utilized to convey sanitary waste only. It is proposed to finance this project with a 20-year low interest loan in the amount of $2,309,038 from the Illinois EPA Water Pollution Control Loan Program.
The IEPA has determined that there are no negative environmental impacts related to this project and the agency has issued a Notice of Intent to Issue a Categorical Exclusion to that effect.
The Project Plan, associated documents and the IEPA determination will be available for review for a period of ten days beginning the 13th of August 2018 at the City of Batavia Public Works Department, 200 N Raddant Rd, Batavia, IL 60510 between the hours of 7:00 am and 4:00 pm.
