Elgin FD responds to 332 fires in 2017

Elgin Fire Department responded to 1319 calls in 2017 - 6.9 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Elgin included 332 fires - 188 structure fires, 38 vehicle fires and 106 other fires. The fire department also responded to five calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $2,571,049 in fire loss - or about $7,744 per fire.

The department also received 982 false calls, including 56 malicious calls and 926 other false calls.

The calls resulted in six civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and 41 were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Elgin Fire Department had an annual budget of $6,602,801 in 2017.
