Cost of college went up for resident students at Elgin Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 0.1 percent for 2017-18 at Elgin Community College, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

Illinois residents paid $10,452 to attend the two-year public institution this year $13 more than the $10,439 charged for 2016-17.

Non-resident students would have paid 14.5 percent more than residents this year, or $11,964. Non-resident tuition and fees grew 0 percent from $11,959 in 2016-17.

100 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Illinois residents.

Data shows 51 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 400 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.65 million and 86 students took out student loans totaling more than $314,260.

Including all undergraduates, 3,620 students used grants or scholarships totaling $11.61 million. Another 754 took out $2.74 million in federal student loans.
