St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 Board met Sept. 25.

1. Call to Order
Vice President Manheim called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.
A. Roll Call
By roll call the following members were present: Mr. Gaffney, Mrs. Linkimer, Mr. McNally, Ms. Waibel, and Mr. Manheim. Absent: Mrs. Fairgrieve and Mrs. Hewell.
Also present: Dr. Jason Pearson, Superintendent; Mr. Mark Moore, Assistant Superintendent of Leadership and Administrative Services; and Mrs. Chris Rachford, Recording Secretary.

3. Motion to Adjourn to Closed Session for the Purpose of
Member Linkimer motioned, seconded by Member McNally to Adjourn to Closed Session for the Purpose of:
1) Student discipline. 5 ILCS 120/2 (c)(9)
By roll call vote the motion carried 5-0: Ayes: Linkimer, McNally, Waibel, Gaffney, and Manheim. Nays: None. Absent: Fairgrieve and Hewell.
The Board Members adjourned to Closed Session at 5:31 p.m.

5. Adjournment to Open Session
Board members returned to Open Session at 5:48 p.m.
Mr. Manheim called the Open Session to order at 5:48 p.m.By roll call the following members were present: Waibel, Gaffney, Linkimer, McNally, and Manheim. Absent: Fairgrieve and Hewell.
Also present: Dr. Jason Pearson, Superintendent; Mr. Mark Moore, Assistant Superintendent of Leadership and Administrative Services; and Mrs. Chris Rachford, Recording Secretary.
6. For Action
A. Student Discipline E171802
Member Linkimer motioned, seconded by Member Gaffney, that the School Board of St. Charles School District 303 reviewed the hearing report of its appointed hearing officer in closed session in the matter of the discipline of Student E171802 pursuant to Section 10- 22.6 of the Illinois School Code; and on the basis of all testimony and evidence presented at the hearing, the Board has determined that Student E171802 is guilty of gross misconduct as set forth in the attached written decision; and the Board has further determined that Student E171802’s out of school suspension was justified and the student should be expelled.
Therefore, the School Board has determined that Student E171802’s suspension is upheld; and the student is expelled for the remainder of the 2017-2018 school year. However, the student’s expulsion shall be held in abeyance for so long as the student successfully attends and completes the safe schools program or another program selected by the District in lieu of expulsion. Should the student and his/her parent or guardian elect to attend the Safe Schools program, they need to sign the Agreement for Attendance at the Safe Schools Program in the form previously approved by the Board of Education. At the close of the first semester of the 2017/2018 school year, the student may return to school with probationary status, provided the student has met all of the requirements of the Safe Schools program.
By roll call vote the motion carried 5-0: Ayes: Gaffney, Linkimer, McNally, Waibel, and Manheim. Nays: None. Absent: Fairgrieve and Hewell.

Member McNally motioned, seconded by Member Linkimer to adjourn the meeting.
By consensus the motion carried 5-0: Ayes: Linkimer, McNally, Waibel, Gaffney, and Manheim. Nays: None. Absent: Fairgrieve and Hewell.
The meeting adjourned at 5:51 p.m.
