Roskam pushes Trump to end aircraft deals with Iran

U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) does not want the United States to sell any more aircraft to Iran until the country's airline, Iran Air, uses its fleet for civilian purposes only, according to a letter he sent to President Donald Trump recently.

Roskam said that the terms of a 2016 nuclear accord with Iran removed sanctions against Iran Air and has allowed it o serve as a troop transport arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' (IRGC) terrorist activities, including providing military support to Syria, Roskam said, according to a press release.

“Preventing the sale of aircraft to Iran while its commercial aviation sector serves as a client of the IRGC is fully aligned with the Administration’s goals of raising the cost of Iran’s destabilizing behavior and countering the IRGC,” Roskam wrote. “I look forward to working with you in preventing Iran Air from receiving more aircraft it can use to support death and destruction throughout the Middle East."
