City of Aurora Veterans Advisory Council met Jun 15.

1. Call to Order
The Aurora Veterans Advisory Council, Meeting #54 was called to order at 5:30 pm by Chair Toma.
2. Pledge of Allegiance
The Pledge of Allegiance was proudly proclaimed by the entire membership present. Post the Pledge of Allegiance, a brief “Moment of Silence” was observed for our fallen.
3. Roll Call
Roll call was taken by Secretary Roscoe. Seven present, 6 absent as indicated above.
4. Mission Statement
Mr. Perez recited the AVAC mission statement.
5. Approval of the March, April and May 2017 Meeting Minutes
Approval of the March, April 2017 Meeting Minutes were approved. Mr. Reyna motioned. Mr. Butler seconded. Motion carried.
6. Treasurer’s Report
Vice Chair/Trea$urer Garcia presented the treasurer’s report. Mr. Reyna motioned. Mr. Perez seconded. Motion carried.
7. Vets Week Aurora 2017
Vice Chair Garcia thanked AVAC members for their hard work and dedication making Vets Week 2017 a huge success. The Armed Forces Day Car Show has been re-scheduled (rain) to be held on July 29, 2017 at West Aurora Plaza. A motion was made by Mr. Roscoe and seconded by Mr. Butler to replenish the AVAC scholarship fund with $5,000.00 of the proceeds from Vets Week to be awarded in 2018. Motion carried.
8. Task Force Task Force Task Force
(a) Service Dogs – No report.
(b) Brick Sales – Need to establish a group to make presentations to community groups to support this cause.
(c) Christmas for the Troops – There was also discussion on how AVAC can support our deployed service members this Holiday season.
9. Hope for Tomorrow
Annual event to be held on August 13, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
10. Good of the Order
• Aurora Army Veteran Matt Gibson is in need of a heart transplant, there is a fundraiser on July 15, 2017 at Mike & Denise’s in Aurora to help the Gibson family. Ms. Garcia motioned to donate $1,000.00 to the cause. Mr. Roscoe seconded. Motion passed.
• AVAC to follow up with the City of Aurora regarding the Purple Heart street signs.
• Chairman Toma and Secretary Roscoe to meet with Grunt Style to get a price for polo shirts for AVAC members.
• AVAC Chairman Toma and Scholarship Sub-Committee Chairman Roscoe to meet with Heather Johnson at the Community Foundation to review and update scholarship criteria soon.
11. Next Scheduled Scheduled Meeting Date
The next meeting of the AVAC was announced for July 20, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at AMVETS Post 103, 1194 Jericho Road, Aurora.
