Plowing ahead with his campaign for Dundee Township highway commissioner, first-time GOP candidate Scott Sinnett recently stood up to criticism from his rivals, defending his reputation and work ethic in a response through social media.
He handled a recent verbal assault levied by competitor Michael Rogers with a practical rebuttal.
"My opponent attacked me on Facebook for not showing up to Republican Central Committee meetings,” Sinnett stated. “I guess he thinks Gov. (Bruce) Rauner is going to help plow our roads ... I'm not here to shake hands and name drop, folks, I'm here to do the job I've been doing for 40 years."
Claiming familiarity with “every piece of equipment and … truck the township has in the inventory,” he recently told the McHenry Times that his 45 years in the excavating and trucking business -- which feature management and organizational experience -- would serve the jurisdiction well.
Moreover, Sinnett grew up with an inherent awareness of infrastructure since his father served as a highway official.
“I want to bring integrity, experience and financial responsibility to the Dundee Township Highway Department,” Sinnett told constituents via Facebook. He wants to lower taxes and cut costs by using equipment more efficiently, according to the publication.
The highway commissioner oversees more than 50 miles of roadway, managing snow and ice removal, repair, signage and safety, drainage and other maintenance matters, according to the Dundee Township home page.
The primary race for the position begins today, Feb. 13, and runs through Feb. 28. Incumbent Commissioner Larry Braasch is also vying for the position.
