Despite a mild winter, Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) continued its tree trimming work through February in Geneva. The trimming is done mainly to protect against extended power outages that can be be caused by trees and branches contacting power lines.
Several areas in the city required tree trimming, including Route 25 from Fabyan Parkway to State Street, Oakwood Drive, portions of North and South River Lane, and Seventh Street from South to Franklin streets.
Even though Geneva owns and operates its own electric utility, ComEd has power lines and equipment running throughout the city.
Approximately 13 percent of all electric service interruptions are caused by trees and other vegetation, ComEd said.
