Construction on the long-awaited Longmeadow Parkway began in February, with work currently being done between Huntley/Boyer and Randall Roads, including clearing the area and contouring the land to allow for the roadway and a traffic light.
The Longmeadow Parkway has taken decades to implement. The 5.6-mile roadway will stretch from Huntley/Boyer Road to Illinois Route 62 and includes a new bridge over the Fox River. It will provide additional accessibility in northern Kane County. The local-access road addresses future traffic needs as the area continues to grow.
While the roadway is intended to ease congestion on nearby roads and increase mobility between the surrounding communities, the tree-lined parkway will provide a scenic drive through the Brunner Family Forest Preserve. Approximately 5,765 trees that are dead or in poor health in the construction area will be removed and replaced with more than 11,530 native trees along the corridor. In addition, pedestrian and bike paths will be added and connected to existing paths.
During construction, motorists should watch for heavy-equipment and construction vehicles as they enter and leave the site. This section of the parkway is scheduled for completion by fall.
