Democrats in the Illinois House have passed a new energy omnibus bill, which has drawn criticism from Republican lawmakers who say it will lead to higher electricity costs for residents and businesses.

State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-St. Charles) voiced his concerns during debate on the House floor. "We’ve been told about savings from these same types of policies enacted in the past, including FEJA and CEJA, and those savings have never materialized," Ugaste said. He added, "Our residents and businesses are suffering under the weight of large utility bills, and we should be doing something immediately to expand clean burning, readily available fuel and nuclear energy. Prices for electricity under this bill are going to increase for some and skyrocket for others."

Ugaste was elected to represent Illinois' 65th House District in 2019, succeeding Steven Andersson.
