The St. Charles Fire Department is scheduled to perform hydrant flow testing at 110 South 17th Street on Thursday, October 2, 2025. The testing will start at approximately 9:00 a.m. and is expected to conclude by 10:00 a.m.

During or shortly after the testing, residents may notice rust in their water. The department states that the water remains safe to use, but recommends avoiding laundry until the water clears. If clothing becomes discolored due to rusty water during laundering, residents are advised to keep the items wet and contact the Public Works Department at 630-377-4405 for a rust-removing solution packet.

Drivers are also encouraged to exercise caution when traveling through areas where hydrant flushing is taking place because of possible water on the pavement.
