After receiving input from residents, the Village has decided to install a bat house to aid in mosquito control. This initiative will complement the existing mosquito abatement program rather than replace it. The Village is consulting with the Illinois Bat Conservation Program to determine the best location for the bat house.

The current mosquito abatement strategy relies on scientific methods. Mosquito traps are regularly checked to assess population density. When trap counts indicate high numbers of female mosquitoes, who are responsible for biting, the Public Works Department initiates a fogging program.

Once the bat house is installed, Public Works will monitor its impact on mosquito levels in the area.

"We appreciate the community’s engagement and ideas that help us enhance public health and quality of life," stated a representative from the Village. Updates on where the bat house will be installed are forthcoming.
