The City of Geneva is set to improve its electric service reliability by replacing underground utility cables in four specific areas. The project will commence in July and is expected to continue through October.

The planned schedule for the 2025-26 underground electric replacement program includes: South Harrison Street near Spring Street from July 7 to August 18, James Street west of Ninth Street from August 18 to September 8, 2000 South Batavia Avenue from September 9 to September 26, and James Street from Third to Fifth streets from September 27 to October 29. It should be noted that these construction dates are estimates and may change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. Landscaping will be restored after the completion of construction.

Utility Dynamics, the contractor hired by the city, will handle the installation of conduit through utility easements and public right-of-way. Additionally, electrical transformers, pedestals, and street lights will be replaced as part of this initiative.

As the projects progress towards completion, there will be scheduled power outages necessary for energizing and connecting homes to new equipment. The city has committed to notifying residents in advance of any service disruptions.

Further information, including a project map, can be found on the city's website. For inquiries, residents are encouraged to contact Jennifer Hilkemann, Electric Division Manager of Distribution, Construction & Maintenance at the City of Geneva, via phone at 630-232-1503 or email.
