Geneva residents are being encouraged to participate in a voluntary program aimed at reducing power consumption during peak hours this summer. With warmer weather approaching, the City of Geneva is offering an electric load reduction program that notifies customers when to decrease electricity usage.
The initiative aims to help residents lower their utility bills while supporting environmental sustainability. According to the City, "The benefits of reducing energy include supporting a greener Geneva and helping control future electric costs." The program is optional and does not involve penalties or mandatory reporting.
Residents interested in participating can receive Peak Power Day Alerts by following the City on Twitter/X or subscribing through the "Notify Me" section on the City's website. These alerts will inform customers when it is advisable to reduce power usage.
Once an alert is issued, customers can contribute by adjusting thermostats, delaying the use of major appliances until later in the evening, and turning off unnecessary lights. On average, about 20 alerts are issued each summer.
For further details, residents can contact the Public Works Department Electric Division at 630-232-1503.
