The Route 31 underpass is scheduled to close for two days starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 2, due to train bridge repairs by Union Pacific. The closure will affect the stretch from Third to South streets until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3. Despite the repairs, commuter trains will continue their regular schedules.
Union Pacific plans to install signage to alert drivers about the closure. An official detour route has been set up for motorists traveling north on Route 31, directing them to use Fabyan Parkway, Route 25, and State Street (Route 38). The detour will be reversed for those heading south. Trucks are advised to follow this official detour route.
Local traffic can utilize Third Street as an alternative crossing over the Union Pacific-West Railway tracks. Both drivers and downtown visitors are urged to exercise caution due to the expected increase in traffic on Third Street.
The repair schedule depends on weather conditions and may change accordingly. Updates regarding the project will be available on the City’s website.
