St. Charles City Clerk-elect Susan Hanson, who ran unopposed in the April 1, 2025 Consolidated Election, has chosen not to take office. Despite winning the election uncontested after former City Clerk Nancy Garrison decided against seeking another term, Hanson has relocated outside of St. Charles city limits and has indicated she will not assume the role.

Hanson did not attend the May 5 Swearing-In Ceremony or the first meeting of the newly seated City Council that followed. Although she has not formally withdrawn her candidacy, her absence suggests a decision not to fulfill the position.

Mayor Clint Hull is set to appoint a qualified individual to fill the vacant City Clerk position as per municipal procedure. The vacancy will be officially declared at the upcoming May 19 City Council meeting. Prospective candidates interested in assuming this role are encouraged to submit a letter of interest and resume to Deputy Clerk Marzena Sheets via email at msheets@stcharlesil.gov. Applicants must reside within St. Charles city limits.

The City will provide further updates as the appointment process continues.
