FOIA Request Sent to City Of Elgin Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024

FOIA Request to City Of Elgin Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024.

We at the Kane County Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City Of Elgin Finance Department in Illinois.

The request was made for records detailing sales tax collected from retailers from January 1, 2024, up until the present date. Specifically, we asked for information regarding sales tax collected from retailers by month compared to projected figures. We also requested data on the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month and the names of each retailer along with their gross retail sales reported monthly.

As journalists committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We eagerly await the response from the City Of Elgin Finance Department and will continue our efforts to provide comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs.
