FOIA Request Sent to City Of Geneva Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Geneva Finance Department on October 25, 2024. The request, made by Kane County Reporter, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage of local governmental affairs, sought specific records pertaining to sales tax collected from retailers.

The information requested included details of sales tax collected from retailers since January 1, 204, up until the present date. More specifically, the FOIA request asked for data showing monthly sales tax collections versus projections and the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month. It also sought names of each retailer and their gross retail sales reported each month.

As a media organization, we at Kane County Reporter believe that access to public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we consider ourselves eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We eagerly await the response from the City Of Geneva Finance Department and will continue our commitment to delivering accurate and comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs.
