Thanks to the generosity of residents in the 33rd Senate District, Senator DeWitte's annual fall coat drive was successful, resulting in over 150 coats being delivered to local organizations. "My staff and I noticed an uptick in the number of coat drives that were held across the region this year, so our 150 is just a portion of the total number of coats that will be put to good use this winter," said Senator DeWitte. The recipients included Kids in Need-McHenry County, Lazarus House in St. Charles, Elgin Wayside Center, and the Salvation Army in St. Charles.

Senator DeWitte also hosted a document shredding event at St. Charles North High School with KCT Credit Union as a partner. He expressed gratitude for those who attended: "These handy events are always very well attended."

Today marks Senator DeWitte's final outreach event for the year, an IPASS on Demand session held with Senator Craig Wilcox and Illinois Tollway officials at Algonquin Township Building from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This event assists people with transitioning to new sticker technology without disrupting their IPASS accounts.

October 28th is recognized as National First Responders Day, honoring those who serve on the front lines during crises. The U.S. Department of Commerce estimates there are about 4.6 million first responders nationwide.

The deadline for submissions for the Wall of Honor tribute is approaching on November 8th. Constituents are encouraged to submit photos and stories of veterans to be displayed at the Illinois Capitol from November 11th to November 25th.

In transportation news, Senator DeWitte participated in hearings discussing public transit reforms and funding challenges as part of his role on the Senate Transportation Committee. He also attended a Suburban Transit Summit focused on future transit service improvements and additional state funding requests.

Finally, Illinois drivers are reminded by IDOT to stay vigilant for deer through year's end due to increased risk during October through December when most deer-related crashes occur.
