DeWitte discusses RTA fiscal issues; hosts coat drive; warns against student loan scams

Senator Don DeWitte recently participated in a panel discussion on WTTW's "Chicago Tonight" alongside his Senate Transportation colleague, Senator Ram Villivalam. The segment focused on ongoing Senate hearings regarding fiscal issues at the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA). DeWitte emphasized the need for a regional and coordinated mass transit system that benefits riders across the six-county region.

In addition to his appearance on "Chicago Tonight," Senator DeWitte is conducting his third annual coat drive. He is collecting new and gently-used coats through October 16 at several locations, including his district office in West Dundee, the St. Charles Municipal Building, Salvation Army of St. Charles, and Algonquin Village Hall. Collected coats will be distributed to organizations such as Kids in Need-McHenry County and Lazarus House.

A Senior Resource Fair is scheduled for October 15 in Crystal Lake, organized by Senators Craig Wilcox and Don DeWitte. This event will host various agencies catering to seniors' needs, offering flu shots, blood pressure checks, and an ICASH Unclaimed Property desk. Participating organizations include Aetna, PACE Bus Service, and Walgreens.

The IPASS On Demand events are returning due to high demand. The next event will be held on October 28 at the Algonquin Township Building in Crystal Lake. These events allow residents to switch their plastic IPASS transponders for new sticker technology.

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) has issued a warning about increased scams targeting students with loans. Families are advised to be cautious of offers promising lower rates or loan forgiveness and should report any suspicious activity to the Illinois Attorney General’s Student Loan Hotline.

Senate Republicans are honoring veterans with a Wall of Honor display at the Illinois Capitol from November 11 to 25. Constituents are encouraged to submit photos and stories of their veteran family members by November 8 for inclusion in this tribute.

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) is celebrating National Women’s Business Month by highlighting women-owned businesses across the state. Throughout October, DCEO will offer free events showcasing resources available for women entrepreneurs.

Illinois deer hunting season has commenced with archery season running from October 1 through January 19 east of Route 47. Firearm seasons begin in mid-November with specific dates set for general firearm and muzzleloader-only seasons. Hunters are reminded to follow safety guidelines during this period.
