Senator DeWitte Earns 97% on IMA Legislative Scorecard
Senator Don DeWitte has been named a “Champion of Manufacturing” by the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association (IMA) in its 2024 Legislative Report Card. DeWitte earned a 97% rating, tying with another lawmaker for the highest score in the General Assembly.
The IMA’s Report Card evaluates lawmakers based on their voting records on key bills affecting the state's manufacturing sector. The report highlights legislators' support for Illinois' manufacturing economy and job creation.
"The manufacturing sector employs over 600,000 people in the state," said DeWitte. "Ensuring that manufacturers have a strong voice in Springfield helps safeguard a cornerstone of Illinois’ economy."

Federal Judge Strikes Down Concealed Carry Ban on Public Transit
On August 30, a federal judge in Rockford ruled that Illinois' prohibition on carrying concealed weapons on public transportation was unconstitutional for four plaintiffs named in the suit.
"It’s a shame people feel the need to arm themselves," said DeWitte following the ruling. He cited increased violent gun crime on CTA as a contributing factor for this sentiment.
"I have sponsored legislation allowing law-abiding concealed carry license holders to carry on public transportation," he added. "I am not surprised at this ruling and expect more challenges now that precedent has been set."
Cost of Living Continues to Skyrocket for Illinoisans
Illinois residents face significant increases in their cost of living. A recent report from Insurify indicates that car insurance rates have risen by 46% since last year. Additionally, Illinois ranks fifth nationally for car thefts.
"These rising costs are yet another consequence of the state’s failure to effectively address public safety," commented DeWitte.
Beyond insurance hikes, Illinois continues to rank as one of the least tax-friendly states with some of the highest property taxes nationwide.
