New data from the Internal Revenue Service reveals that in 2022, over 87,000 Illinois residents relocated to other states due to high taxes. This migration resulted in nearly $10 billion in income leaving Illinois, significantly affecting the state's economy. Chicago was noted for having the third-highest rate of domestic population loss in the country.

Governor J.B. Pritzker recently signed nearly $1 billion in tax hikes into law to fund spending on the migrant crisis, indicating that working families are unlikely to see substantial tax cuts soon.

A new law sponsored by Illinois Senate Republicans aims to ensure educational continuity for children under the care of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). Senate Bill 2824 allows children to continue attending their current school even after being placed with a different parent or relative. The law also protects caregivers from financial burdens if it is deemed best for the child to attend a different school. The bill passed unanimously and will take effect on January 1, 2025.

Legislation designed to align education with workforce needs has been signed into law. Senate Bill 2862 requires the Illinois Board of Higher Education to release an annual list of in-demand jobs, helping educators prepare students for successful careers. This measure took effect immediately upon being signed into law on July 1.

Senator Don DeWitte hosted an "IPASS On Demand" event in St. Charles, assisting 135 constituents with switching their plastic IPASS transponders to new sticker tags. Due to high demand, another event is scheduled for July 31 at the same location.

Upcoming events in Senator DeWitte's district include traveling office hours, mobile Secretary of State services, prescription drug drop-offs, senior expos, shred events, and an I-CASH Unclaimed Property Day.

The Illinois State Fair Museum Foundation seeks nominations for its "Illinoisan of the Day" program at this year's state fair from August 8-18. Nominees must be Illinois residents aged 25 or older who have significantly contributed to county and state fairs.

Senator DeWitte reminds professional license-holders not to delay renewing their licenses before they expire on September 30. His office offers assistance with any bureaucratic delays encountered during renewal processes.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) urges drivers to exercise caution as roadside mowing continues through August 15. Statistics show that work zones average almost 6,100 crashes annually in Illinois, resulting in numerous injuries and fatalities.
