Senator Don DeWitte announced significant traffic improvements throughout the 33rd District in a June 27 Facebook post.

"Great transportation projects are coming to the 33rd District," said Donald Dewitte, State Senator 33rd District, according to Facebook.

In his post, DeWitte shared a link to a news release about transportation projects. The release notes that within the updated Multi-Year Transportation Improvement Plan, $53,220,000 is allocated to his district. More than $24 million of that funding will go to state highway improvements in the district, and just under $29 million will go to local highways. During the current fiscal year, the plan designated $25,860,000 to be spent within the district.

"This funding will provide for vital improvements to our state and local roads. The projects will improve safety on our roads and strengthen the integrity of several bridges," said DeWitte in the news release.

The news release included a four-page PDF detailing projects included in the 2025-2030 Rebuild Illinois Highway Improvement Program. Some of these projects include pavement preservation, bridge reconstruction, culvert placement for safety reasons, initial construction of pavement, rehabilitation of pavement, and pavement maintenance. Bridge maintenance is also on the list.

Projects in Senate District 33 include four projects in 2025, ten projects scheduled for 2025-2030, and six projects between fiscal years 2026 to 2030. The PDF also outlines estimated costs and highlights the location of each project in the FY 2025-2028 Rebuild Illinois Highway Improvement Program.

The 2025 projects are located in Geneva, Elgin, and Carpentersville. They include two reconstruction projects, construction engineering, and the creation and installation of additional lanes of traffic.

DeWitte has represented Illinois’ 33rd Senate District since 2018 when he was appointed. Before that, he served as mayor of St. Charles from 2005 to 2013 and as an alderman between 1993 and 2005. He also served on the Regional Transportation Authority Board between 2013 and 2018 representing Kane County according to his official senate biography.
