Governor Set To Sign Largest Spending Plan in Illinois History

The Governor is set to sign Democrats’ $53.1 billion budget today, the largest spending plan in Illinois history. This plan was passed without Republican support and during late-night sessions.

The Governor will describe this budget as “balanced,” although there are concerns regarding its funding mechanisms. Critics argue that it relies heavily on taxes and financial maneuvers that may impact Illinois residents adversely. The budget includes $1 billion in tax increases, pay raises for politicians, and an additional billion dollars allocated for non-citizens.

"This spending plan does not reflect the priorities of the people we represent," stated an opposition representative.
