State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) issued a statement on May 29, 2024, in response to the passage of the Fiscal Year 2025 state budget. Ugaste criticized the budget for its tax increases and lack of bipartisan involvement.

"One of the biggest problems we have in Illinois is over-taxation of businesses and residents, and this budget once again calls for huge tax increases," said Ugaste. He expressed concern that current policies are not conducive to economic growth and may deter job creators from coming to Illinois.

"This budget, crafted by Democrats with no Republican involvement, does not address the needs of our residents and instead doubles down on bad policies and misplaced priorities," he continued. Ugaste accused Illinois Democrats of lacking fiscal responsibility and relying on additional taxes rather than fostering natural revenue growth.

"The Democrats need to start working with Republicans on new ideas to create growth and stop relying on the same failed policies," Ugaste concluded.
