Senator Don DeWitte of the 33rd Senate District made special deliveries at Sherman Hospital during National Nurses Appreciation Week, showing gratitude to the healthcare professionals who tirelessly work long hours to maintain public health. "We were able to see the night shift nurses as they were leaving, and the day shift nurses as they were arriving," he said.

DeWitte is also partnering with State Representative Ugaste for a Mobile DMV event on May 17 in Elburn. The event requires registration and walk-ins will not be accommodated. Appointments are expected to fill up quickly.

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) is providing free assistance to high school students applying for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). ISAC aims to ensure that every student, especially those about to graduate, is aware of the free assistance available for financial aid and college planning.

In response to expressed needs from the St. Charles Salvation Army and Food for Greater Elgin, Senator DeWitte is hosting a household cleaning product and toiletry drive from May 20-24. His offices in West Dundee and St. Charles will serve as drop-off locations for donated items.

The Illinois Senate has advanced legislation recognizing the United States Space Force as an official branch of the United States Armed Forces. House Bill 5640 changes state law to include the Space Force wherever the Armed Forces are mentioned.

May is Law Enforcement Appreciation Month, during which law enforcement agencies across Illinois honor their officers' dedication and sacrifices. According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data, law enforcement consistently ranks among the top ten most hazardous jobs in America. In 2021 alone, 159 officers lost their lives on duty, with assaults or homicides and transportation incidents accounting for approximately 80% of these fatalities.
