Andrew Sosnowski, a candidate for Kane County State's Attorney, recently commented on an incident at a carnival in Lake in the Hills. Sosnowski, who is challenging incumbent Jamie Mosser in the general election, stated that during his tenure as a juvenile prosecutor, young offenders were sentenced in such a way that "they understood criminal behavior is unacceptable."
"We need to punish young offenders," said Sosnowski, according to his post on Facebook. "When I was a juvenile prosecutor, young offenders would be sentenced so they understood criminal behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. These are our neighborhoods. We need law and order."
Sosnowski referenced a CBS News report about an event in the Village of Lake in the Hills that was closed down on April 27 due to disorderly crowds. The CBS news report indicated that while there were no reports of injuries or gunshots, several fights broke out. The Algonquin and Lake in the Hills Chamber of Commerce cited an unexpected increase in attendance leading to overcrowding, including unattended teenagers.

The chief of police and the Village of Lake in the Hills decided not to reopen the carnival on April 28, prioritizing attendee safety.
A subsequent CBS News article published on May 1 reported that the Village of Huntley also cancelled a planned carnival associated with the Citius Illinois Baseball and More Brewing event. The carnival was scheduled for this Friday through Sunday; however, due to safety concerns raised by the Huntley Police Department, it will not take place.
Born and raised in Illinois, Sosnowski has over three decades of legal experience. His career includes time as a prosecutor in Kane and McHenry counties during the 1990s where he "tried felony cases and earned a reputation as a tough but fair prosecutor," according to his campaign website. He served as Chief of Kane County’s Family Justice Division focusing on domestic violence, child abuse and other related issues. He also held temporary prosecutorial appointments in Jo Daviess County as chief prosecutor and Ogle County as chief of staff. His private practice experience spans six years operating his own law firm.
Sosnowski's platform emphasizes child safety and removing politics from the State’s Attorney’s Office. "It is crucial that we take partisan politics out of State Attorneys Offices. Your elected State’s Attorney must be impartial, apolitical, and focused on public safety, while upholding the law in an impartial manner," Sosnowski's campaign website states.
