City of Geneva City Council met March 4

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

CALL TO ORDER

The March 4, 2024 meeting of the Geneva City Council was called to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall by Mayor Kevin Burns.

Elected Officials present:

Alderpersons: Anaïs Bowring, Mike Bruno, Becky Hruby, Dean Kilburg, Craig Maladra, Richard Marks, Amy Mayer, Martha Paschke, Robert Swanson.

Mayor Kevin Burns, City Clerk Vicki Kellick.

Elected Officials attending by video or teleconference: None.

Elected Officials absent: Brad Kosirog.

Others Present: City Administrator Stephanie Dawkins, Assistant City Administrator Ben McCready, City Attorney Ron Sandack, Community Development Director David DeGroot, Economic Development Director Cathleen Tymoszenko.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

The pledge was led by Cathleen Tymoszenko.

Before the rest of the meeting commenced, Mayor Burns thanked the Public Works Department, the Geneva Police and Fire Departments, the Geneva Emergency Management Agency, and residents of the 4th Ward. He thanked Ald. Paschke and Ald. Mayer for their help in clearing properties and helping their neighbors after the tornado that affected parts of the City on February 27.

Mayor Burns also noted that on March 1, I.T. Manager Peter Collins will be celebrating his 25th anniversary with the City of Geneva.

PUBLIC HEARINGS, SPECIAL ITEMS AND PRESENTATIONS

Proclaim March as Women’s History Month

Moved by Ald. Paschke, Seconded by Alds. Bowring, Hruby, and Mayer.

Mayor Burns noted that there have never been four women serving as alderpersons on the City Council before now. He also noted that this is the first time that this is the first time that one ward has been represented by two women.

None.

OMNIBUS AGENDA (OMNIBUS VOTE)

All Items listed with an asterisk (*) are considered to be routine by the City Council and will be enacted by one motion. There will be no separate discussion on these items unless a council member so requests in which event the item will be removed from the Omnibus (Consent) Agenda and considered in its normal sequence on the Agenda. All items on the Omnibus Agenda require a simple majority vote unless otherwise indicated.

CLOSED SESSION ON PENDING LITIGATION (5 ILCS 120/2(c)(11), and THE PURCHASE, SALE OR LEASE OF REAL PROPERTY FOR THE USE OF THE PUBLIC BODY (5 ILCS 120/2 (c)(5).

Moved by Ald. Marks, Seconded by Ald. Bowring.

AYES: 9 (Burghart, Hruby, Kaven, Kilburg, Kosirog, Maladra, Marks, Mayer, Swanson)

ABSENT: 1 (Bruno)

NAYS: 0

MOTION CARRIED to enter into closed session at 7:11 PM.

On a motion by Ald. Marks and Seconded by Ald. Swanson, the City Council meeting returned to open session at 7:57 PM.

MOTION CARRIED by unanimous voice vote of those present.

NEW BUSINESS

Ald. Paschke stated that she and Ald. Mayer thank the community for helping each other after the storm, and thank the City for all of its help tending to the needs of those residents impacted by the storm.

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business, moved by Ald. Bowring to adjourn the Geneva City Council meeting.

MOTION CARRIED by unanimous voice vote of those present.

The meeting adjourned at 7:58 PM.
