Kane County Public Health Committee met Feb. 22.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

1. Call To Order

Committee Chair Sanchez stated there was no in-person quorum at 9:00 a.m. This meeting was for informational purposes only. The Committee moved on to the monthly reports, until an official in-person quorum was established. (Madam Chairman Pierog arrived at 9:15 a.m.) Committee Chair Sanchez announced that an in-person quorum was official at 9:26 a.m., and to resume roll call.

3. Remote Attendance Requests

Committee Chairman Sanchez announced the remote attendance requests for today's meeting. He asked the Committee if there were any objections to Committee Members Gumz, Surges, and Williams attending today's meeting remotely. There were no objections.

8. Treasurer / Collector

A. Monthly Report

Treasurer Lauzen stated the monthly reports were on file. The Treasurer's Office is finishing up printing all of the tax bills.

9. Supervisor of Assessments

A. Monthly Report

The monthly reports are on file. No additional report was made.

10. Regional Office of Education

Supt. of Regional Office of Education (ROE) Dal Santo presented the monthly updates.

She stated that this year there are 108,651 students within the County schools. Eight of the nine districts are losing population within the County. The district that is gaining population is Burlington. As of January 17, 2024, there were 2,332 students served. In February, 2,635 students were served. This is an increase of 303 students in one month. It is predicted that by the end of this year McKinney Vento will have up to 472 students more than last year. There are 729 students identified as asylum seekers in the County. Five out of the nine school districts reported families that have identified as asylum seekers. The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) provided an additional $10K of MC-V funding to support asylum seekers. (Madam Chairman Pierog arrived at 9:15 a.m.) Discussion ensued.

11. Veteran's Assistance Commission

A. Monthly Report

VAC Supt. Zimmerman reported that the Veteran Resource Fair was hosted earlier this month in Batavia. Over 50 service providers including the Assessment Office, seven offices from Hines, and over 250 veterans attended the event. A Town Hall meeting was hosted the same day with Senior VA leaders and members of the general assembly present.

12. County Clerk

A. Monthly Report

Co. Clk. staff Pollock announced that today is Election Day. He stated that early voting has started.There are a total of 408 early voters, so far, and vote-by-mail ballots were mailed out on February 8, 2024. Over 3K residents have already voted, and the expanded early voting begins March 4, 2024. There were 4,791 passport applications completed. There was an increase in customers served for birth certificates, death, and marriage records. Pollock addressed questions and comments from the Committee. Discussion ensued.
