Info from city we can discuss:
• The City does not have a formal “Transportation” budget. However, the following items are in Street Capital and are either directly related to cycling, or may improve cycling safety:
• Road Diet Conversion- $340,000
• This program was moved up by IDOT to specifically address bike and pedestrian safety.
• Bike and Ped Plan Implementation- $300,000
o Combined, these make up $640,000 of the $5,700,569 in the FY 2024 Streets Capital Budget (11.2%).
• High-Speed Roads with Bike Facilities
o Both Kirk and Fabyan have bike facilities, per our Bike and Pedestrian Plan (see page 29 for a map).
As for the mileage question, roughly, the current numbers are:
• 17.2 mi of Trails/Sidepaths
• 1.6 mi of Bike Lanes
• 6.1 mi of signed bike routes
• 1.1 mi of shared lanes
• Total: 26 mi.
Given the 130+ miles of roads, the ~ ratio is 1 mi of bike facilities to 5 mi of roadways. Our GPS department is working on refining these numbers. If there is any adjustment, I will let you know.
