State Senators Don DeWitte and Craig Wilcox recently spread love and joy to local seniors by delivering over 9,000 homemade valentines to those living in nursing homes and assisted living centers. The initiative was part of the Senate Republicans’ annual Valentines for Seniors program.
DeWitte, representing the 33rd Senate District, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “This is my favorite event of the year because the community really comes together to make Valentine’s Day special for area seniors.” He highlighted the importance of combating loneliness among seniors, emphasizing that through the program, they feel valued and remembered by others.
In the 32nd District, Wilcox shared the success of the program, noting, “We set a new participation record this year in the 32nd District, with just over 5,000 valentines submitted by school, church, scouting, and 4-H groups and by residents who wanted to do their part to make local seniors feel appreciated.” He expressed gratitude to the community for their involvement in making the seniors smile and feel cherished through the heartfelt gesture.
The Valentines for Seniors program, a statewide annual event, saw participation from all 19 Republican Senators this year, resulting in a total of just under 60,000 valentines collected and delivered across the state.
