State Senator Don DeWitte (R-St. Charles) is once again spearheading the "Valentines for Seniors" card drive in Illinois. The initiative aims to bring joy and show appreciation to seniors in assisted living centers, nursing homes, and long-term care facilities across the 33rd Senate District during the week of Valentine's Day.

Senator DeWitte is calling on students from public and private schools, church groups, scouting organizations, and other groups to create homemade cards and drawings for the seniors. He believes that this small gesture can have a significant impact on the lives of the elderly.

"This is my fourth Valentines for Seniors card drive and each year the program grows bigger and bigger," said DeWitte. "Last year we dropped off about 5,000 well-wishes at over 20 different locations. The smiles were priceless. The cards really made the seniors feel appreciated."

To facilitate the card drive, cards and other items can be dropped off or mailed to Senator DeWitte's offices in West Dundee and St. Charles. The offices will have designated boxes for off-hours deliveries. The addresses are as follows:

Senator DeWitte understands the importance of combating loneliness among the elderly. He believes that bringing joy to their lives and letting them know that they are not forgotten is crucial.

"Loneliness can be a real issue for the elderly, so it's nice to bring them some joy so they know we're thinking of them," said DeWitte.

The "Valentines for Seniors" program has been successful in the past. In 2023, Senate Republicans collected and delivered over 42,000 Valentines across the state. The program continues to grow, touching the lives of more seniors each year.
