State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) recently hosted a public safety roundtable with local law enforcement officials to discuss legislation aimed at protecting families in the 65th District and across the State of Illinois. The roundtable aimed to provide an opportunity for an honest dialogue and gather input from the experts who are on the frontlines of public safety.

During the discussion, Rep. Ugaste emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of families in the community. He stated, "Every family in our district and throughout our state deserves to feel safe in their homes and in their community." Rep. Ugaste expressed concern about the increasing crime rates in Illinois and highlighted the need for legislation that takes into account the insights and expertise of those who are actively working to protect the public.

One particular concern raised during the roundtable was the lack of substantial input from law enforcement professionals during the passage of the SAFE-T Act. Rep. Ugaste noted, "Ignoring the men and women who are out on the streets, as well as the dedicated staff who manage the prosecution along with protecting victims, is a recipe for poor morale and decreased public safety." He stressed the importance of including the perspectives of law enforcement officials when crafting legislation that impacts public safety.

As a member of the House Truth in Public Safety (TIPS) working group and the House Police & Fire committee, Rep. Ugaste is actively involved in addressing issues related to public safety. By hosting this roundtable, he demonstrated his commitment to engaging with local law enforcement officials and incorporating their insights into the legislative process.

The roundtable provided an invaluable opportunity for law enforcement officials to share their experiences and expertise. Their input will help guide Rep. Ugaste and his colleagues in crafting effective legislation that addresses the needs and concerns of the community.

Ensuring public safety is a shared responsibility, and collaboration between lawmakers and law enforcement professionals is crucial in achieving this goal. Rep. Ugaste's initiative to host this roundtable reflects his dedication to protecting families and making the 65th District and the State of Illinois a safer place to live.

In the coming months, Rep. Ugaste and his colleagues will continue to work towards enacting legislation that prioritizes public safety and addresses the concerns raised during the roundtable discussion. By incorporating the perspectives of law enforcement officials, they aim to create a comprehensive and effective approach to protecting families and communities.

As Rep. Ugaste stated, "Increasing crime is a very real concern in Illinois." It is imperative that lawmakers and law enforcement professionals work together to address this issue and ensure the safety and well-being of all residents in the state.
