Elgin, IL - The City of Elgin has launched a new pilot project to help reduce the use of small, gas powered engines that contribute to air pollution. The Zero-Emission Yard Equipment Rebate is an opportunity for residents who have purchased an electric leaf blower, snow blower, lawnmower, trimmer, edger, or manual reel lawnmower to receive a $50 rebate. Eligible equipment must be zero-emission, with a minimum of 18 volts and used for non-commercial purposes.
To participate, residents must complete a rebate application and include the following:
- Two documents showing proof of City of Elgin residency (Illinois identification card, Illinois driver’s license, rental agreement, or the most recent paystub, utility bill or phone bill.)
- Completed W-9 form.
- Purchase receipt (must be 2023) from a retail store within Elgin city boundaries. Examples include hardware, home improvement, equipment and discount stores.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, small gas engines produce up to 5% of the nation’s air pollution. Data from Elgin’s Zero-Emission Yard Equipment Rebate pilot program will be used to determine the program’s future.
