ST. CHARLES – State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) and State Senator Don DeWitte (R-St. Charles) are joining forces to host a free shred event and food drive at the Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin on Saturday, October 14th. The event aims to help constituents safely dispose of sensitive documents while also collecting non-perishable food items for those in need.
The shred event will take place at the Gail Borden Public Library, located at 2751 W. Bowes Road in Elgin, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A shred truck will be on-site, and documents will be accepted during this time or until the truck is full.
State Representative Dan Ugaste encourages all 65th District constituents to take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of their sensitive documents. He says, “This event is always a great opportunity to help constituents safely dispose of their sensitive documents. I encourage all 65th District constituents who have documents they would like to shred to stop by this event for a quick, free opportunity to help clean out your homes and offices. It’s also a great way to donate food to help our neighbors in need.”
State Senator Don DeWitte also emphasizes the importance of donating non-perishable food items during this time. He states, “This time of year our local food pantries tend to run low on supplies for families in need, so I am hopeful our community members will step up to help as they’ve always done in the past. As people are gathering their sensitive documents for free, safe, and secure destruction, I hope they will look through their kitchen pantry and grab a few nonperishable items to donate.”
Participants are advised to follow traffic signs and remain in their vehicles during the event. Shred truck staff will unload cars, but parking will be available for those who wish to witness their documents being fed into the shredder. Paper folders, staples, and paper clips can be fed into the shredder, but large binder clips, plastic file folders, and old floppy discs are not accepted. Additionally, no electronics will be accepted for recycling or disposal.
