State Rep. Dan Ugaste (R-St. Charles) is expressing alarm and sending condolences following a murder-suicide shooting in Geneva.
“I’m so sorry to hear about the tragic shooting that occurred last night in Geneva that killed two people in an apparent domestic violence murder-suicide,” he posted June 15 on his official website. “We continue to hope and work for a day when these tragedies stop happening and mourn with our community and their loved ones facing this unimaginable grief.”
According to CBS News Chicago, authorities have identified the victims as 49-year-old Chad Dockery, of Hinsdale, and his 48-year-old ex-wife Amanda Dockery. Police say Chad Dockery phoned police to tell them he had killed his wife before turning the gun on himself while sitting in his vehicle in the driveway where the shooting occurred as officers arrived.
"There is no risk to the public. The incident was confined to that scene and the end of the cul-de-sac here," Geneva Police Chief Eric Passarelli said, according to CBS News. "You know, it's tragic. Our hearts go out the families and everyone impacted in this community. As we've said, it really - it shakes the whole community."
Authorities reported Amanda Dockery suffered two gunshot wounds. Police said both victims were rushed to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, where Amanda was pronounced dead at 6:06 p.m., and Chad was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m. Police later recovered a 9 mm handgun at the scene of the shooting.
The Violence Policy Center noted murder-suicides are a somewhat common form of gun violence, adding there are 11 murder-suicides in the United States each week.
