At its April 13  meeting, the Huntley Village Board voted on three different resolutions to move its 2023 road improvement program forward. These included appropriating $1,250,000 from the state Motor Fuel Tax funds, appropriating $1,759,108 from Rebuild Illinois Funds, and awarding a contract for services with a total cost of $3,773,129 to Arrow Road Construction company for its 2023 road resurfacing schedule. The board approved the project and plans.

Director of Public Works Timothy Farrell showed the board a presentation on the village's road improvement efforts to give some background on the project. He started by showing a graphic representing the past five years of road resurfacing in the village, amounting to about 7.5 miles of roadway for a total of $1.3 million. This year the village plans to tackle nine miles of roadway within the village, all within one summer construction season. The village also plans to complete all city neighborhoods receiving sidewalk saw cuts by the end of the 2023 season, reaching all 37 neighborhoods by doing half of them within 2023.

"One thing I wanted to add is we've got a lot going on this year with our infrastructure program, and that's been very important to a successful community," said village president Timothy Hoeft. "Between the water treatment facility we've got started and the most aggressive road program we've had in our history. We got about $14 million worth of work out there. But I'd like our residents to know is the cost to your residents is $7 million and due to the developer donations that we've had, ARPA money, DMFT money obviously. So we're getting twice as much work done for the same money as what it would be due to our staff doing a very good job making sure they can capture every dollar we have and being a proactive community. So I just wanted to say we appreciate that."

The village also has some improvement plans for Del Webb Boulevard, Jim Dhamer Drive, and Manning Road. These include some resurfacing, concrete replacements, and general improvements. This will add an additional 1.5 miles of roadway to its schedule this year.

The village has broken the projects into five phases, working from the north to the south. All work should be completed by Aug. 18, with interim completions for the phases between then and the earliest start date of April 17. The phases will be started in succession, with roughly two weeks in between their start dates.
