Rep. Martin McLaughlin (R-Lake Barrington) expressed outrage at the latest unemployment figures that showed the state ranking next-to-last in the country in joblessness, ahead of only Nevada.
"We should be a leader in growing job opportunities for our residents," McLaughlin wrote in a Facebook post on Jan. 25. "We have the resources, but our state's high taxes and bad public policies drive employers away."
McLaughlin commented on the numbers shortly after they were released, citing a story by WGN.
"We have to be more competitive to get innovators and job creators to invest in Illinois," he added.
With Illinois’ unemployment rate standing at 4.7% in December, the state lags behind the national average of 3.5%,, and the joblessness rates of neighboring states Wisconsin, Iowa and Missouri.
According to a Feb. 1 post on his Facebook page, McLaughlin has been assigned to the Cities and Villages, Judiciary-Civil Government Administration, Revenue & Finance Insurance committees, and the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability,
