At its Dec. 20 meeting, The Bartlett Village Board discussed eliminating sewage odor coming from Brewster Creek Business Park.
Residents and businesses have complained about the odors, which the public works department has been working on getting rid of, but have not been able to do so.
"The Public Works Department has continued to work with industrial users within Brewster Creek Business Park regarding their effluent sewers, sewer flow and its effects on its residents," Bartlett trustee Joe LaPorte said. "And the village's treatment plant, particularly the odors from the flow through the neighborhood's different filters and chemicals have been utilized to try and help fight off the odors, but have not been able to eliminate the odors currently entirely."
The board was told that the public works department looked around at other municipalities, and Naperville had a Vapex odor control system that worked very well for them. It could be installed at the lift system in the BCB and would neutralize the odors using a combination of ozone, water, and air nozzles. The village can use TIF funds for this purchase and decrease their dependency on chemicals to address the issue. The board voted in favor of the purchase.
In other business, the board voted to enter into a cost-savings agreement with Brewster Creek Business Park for pavement project work. Both the BCBP and the village had projects to be completed in the area, including roadways and bike paths that are 20 years old. They also plan to install a new bike path and pedestrian crossing. The organizations will work together with the contractor to save money.
